Something on Petroglyphs:

The Puako Petroglyphs are carved into a large field of lava in the Kohala area of the Big Island of Hawaii.

Hundreds and hundreds of petroglyphs cover this area and legend states that if you stand among the lava rocks and close your eyes, you can hear the sound of rock scraping against rock.

Some common phrases in Hawaiian are:

Aloha:             Hello, goodbye (also love)

E komo mai:    Come in

Mahalo:           Thank you

Mahalo nui loa: Thank you very much

Ono loa:           Really delicious

Pau:                 Finished

Makai:              Toward the ocean

Mauka:             Inland, toward the mountain
